Summer greetings from the Commercial Art program at the Chester County Technical College High School, Pickering Campus! (CCTCHS) Our program, like our school, is undergoing a period of change and transformation. Many of the physical changes to our room are being accomplished over this summer hiatus. The former darkroom is being transformed into a new digital output center and all of our digital printing devices will be housed in this area where we’ll be better able to utilize technologies like CD/DVD inkjet imprinting, heat transfer imprinting of tiles, glass and plastics, and general laser and inkjet printing of documents and photographs. In addition, we’re doubling the size of our portrait and green screen photography areas.
I’m working on learning the new software in the Adobe Creative Suite (CS6) that we’ll be using in our lab in the coming year. Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and Bridge have all had major overhauls done to them and I believe you’re going to enjoy some of the new capabilities of the software. If you wish to see some of the advances you can explore this series of videos from Adobe TV:
What’s New in CS6 & Creative Cloud
What you’re going to discover is that the software has been expanded to design for the myriad of new digital devices we carry around with us – so designing for computing pads and smart phones is an important growth area that is now part of commercial art and the designers’ world. In the coming weeks we’ll be investigating Adobe Certification for our program and your ability to become “Adobe Certified” prior to graduation.
If you have any questions about our program, the improvements at your school, or any specific technical areas you’d like to work on over the summer, please feel free to email me. I’ll be touching base with all of your again periodically as we get closer to the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year.
Thanks for choosing our program and our school.
