Six of the top twenty in the LevelUp for Photoshop are TCHS students (and a teacher) Congratulations to Christina Megargel and Callie Hogan as the top AM and PM students respectively. They both had 1160 points! The instructor needs to work on this a little more! Be proud - this is a national competition!
What is LevelUp for Photoshop?
LevelUp for Photoshop is a game of missions — and points and rewards — that guide you along the way of learning basic Adobe® Photoshop® CS5 and CS6 software skills. If you are a photographer and are just starting to use Photoshop, this is the game for you. Complete missions to get points and badges. Put those badges on your journal as you finish each mission. Each student in my class will be creating and publishing a class journal. The reasons I ask you to do these journals are:
I always thought twitter was pretty dumb - that I really didn't care what Ashton Kusher had for breakfast - but I've slowly come to realize that it is an awesome professional development tool that put me in contact with experts in the creative field all over the world. A wise man - Roger Martin put it this way, "All of us are smarter than one of us." You will need to create your own twitter account. If you already have an account you can use it - but it might be wise to create another for professional purposes. It's really about creating a brand for yourself that you can sell to colleges or a potential employer. To create a new account, just click on the twitter bird at the top of this post and you'll be linked to Twitter's home page. You'll have to verify your email address after creating a user name and password. Please use your real name when you're setting this up - we can always change it later. Commercial Art Students:
Attached is our syllabus for the 2012-2013 school year. Please share this document with your parents and return the acceptance form at the end of the document by August 30th. I’ll print out copies for those of you needing one on the first day of school. We will be using student journals again this year. These journals are a critical part of any career in art. They will allow you to put together a portfolio of your growth while you’ve studied commercial art here at our school. In addition to showing artistic skills and the visuals, they will give you practice with critical writing skills. When I speak to employers, writing skills are consistently mentioned as a means of separating applicants that get hired and those not brought in for interviews. Formal writing is a skill that can get you a better job. If you need to access any of the emails that I have sent over the summer, all have been posted to our class site. I look forward to working with all of you again this coming year. Make sure you set high goals for yourself and I’ll do everything I can to help you reach those goals. It’s going to be a great year! Thanks for choosing our school and our program, Mr. Tucker Commercial Art Instructor Commercial Art Students:
Once again this year we will be using our class website as a hub for our class. The site hosts a weekly message from the instructor on the home page. This message usually indicates what projects and tools we will be working with each week. Other pages on the site host specific resources like: videos, web links, an assignment calendar, a vocabulary tool called Quizlet, a file sharing page for assignment uploads, our task list and learning objectives for each task, as well as forms we use for managing all sorts of projects related to our yearbook work. There is also a searchable keyword list on our site that can help you solve all kinds of photographic and design challenges. We will use other resources as well, but our class site is something that you should become very familiar with in the weeks to come and throughout the school year. I suggest that you visit this site at least three times a week. The schedule for Physical Education classes has been completed and both AM and PM classes are scheduled for Phys. Ed. on Thursdays. The AM class will report to P.E. after attendance and announcements in our lab. The PM class will have Phys. Ed. around 12:45 each Thursday. Returning students - it is okay to wear you PE uniform from last year if you wish. New students - remember to order Phys. Ed. uniforms from the TCHS-Pickering Web Store. Your first Phys. Ed. class will be on August 30th. If you have any questions regarding the coming school year or just wish to touch base, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. I am hoping to see all of you at our New Student Orientation/Back to School Night on August 22nd from 6 to 8 p.m. You will get your first chance at seeing our improved lab that night. Thanks for choosing our school and our program, Mr. Tucker Commercial Art Instructor My Dear Students:
If you’re like me, you are counting down the days until we’re back in our lab working together. I’ve missed seeing your smiling faces the past few months and I’m looking forward to the new beginning a school year offers. It’s important to get the last bit of extra rest over these next few weeks as we’re going to be hitting the ground running when August 27th rolls around. Once again, we’ll be taking portrait photos of each student at our school for the 2013 Shield. The physical space of our photo studio has been enlarged, and one of our first efforts will be to sit down and schedule over four hundred-some photo sessions. I’ve been watching quite a few YouTube videos and learning from professionals in the portrait business. We’ll have a few new tools and techniques to help us raise the standard of our work this year. I’d like to get your ideas for how to improve our process, so start thinking about problems we’ve had in the past and how to fix them. I look forward to hearing your input. If you want to get a head start on some of those studio techniques here is a list of videos I’ve been studying myself: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?action_edit=1&list=PLA2DA5C098C16BBF7 Our school is instituting a new uniform policy this year. The color suggestions that you made have been instituted and uniforms can be ordered at our school’s wearable web store that can be found at http://store.apexadv.com/CCpickering/default.aspx?p=viewcat&showpage=7 You will need to order tops (shirts/sweatshirts/fleece) from the web store, but if you’re purchasing pants please be aware that they need to be long dress pants (not denim) in the colors khaki, black or ivory. You can save money by purchasing pants anywhere you wish. The real upside to this policy is that you’re going to get several minutes more time in the morning to sleep – you’ll already know what to wear to school every day. It will just simplify things. We’ll also look a lot more professional every day – and that’s a good thing. If you have questions or concerns about uniforms, please contact me and I’ll try to lend you assistance. Seniors, please start thinking about potential senior projects – try to come up with a terrific idea for a product. I have a couple of leadership positions for this year’s yearbook available – let me know your project ideas and I promise you feedback. I’m looking forward to cooler temperatures and seeing all of you again. Thanks for choosing our program and our school. Mr. Tucker Commercial Art Instructor |
