Welcome to Commercial Art & Graphics at TCHS Pickering! Thanks for choosing our program and I am really looking forward to working with all of you throughout the 2016-17 school year. This year we have a great influx of new students as well as some very strong returning students. I'm hoping that each one of you bring all your ideas, creativity, and talent every day. Try to stretch what you know and take big chances every week.
Basic Methods for this class
Most weeks we will be working on three different project types:
I would love to see you approach these projects with your own ideas for how to complete them. I will share examples of finished works - but you can take any of these projects anywhere you wish. Making deadlines can be critical in the business world and if you need more time to complete a project it's on you to make that known to me.
Click on this link to download the syllabus for this class. We'll go over this in class during the first week or so.
Projects for Week 1 & 2
We are in the midst of a twenty million dollar renovation. You know that based on our delayed starting date. We need to be extra careful about moving throughout the building until we're finished. We had issues getting the computers ready for opening day and the computer lab will probably not be fully functional until next week sometime. Due to that we'll be working on just two areas this week - analog and photography.
Analog - Popcicle Stick Challenge - see samples below. You can work in any coloring media you desire. I'd like to see two finished pieces - one bracelet and one flat. The flats you can figure out on your own.
Photography - Portrait Bootcamp - we are being asked to provide ID cards for all staff and students. We need to begin taking portraits next week. This week we'll be setting up the portrait studio including a new beauty dish. We need to get all students working on this important project.
If you haven't gotten your shirt size to me, please fill out the form below. We will be printing our uniforms next week - please don't make me guess your size, I'm not good at it. The first shirt is free. Additional shirts will cost $8 each. When the weather gets a little cooler we'll print some sweatshirts with our logo.
Mr. Tucker is in his 22nd year as the instructor for the Graphic Arts program. Prior to his teaching career he worked in the flexography industry for ten years and in quick printing for ten years.
