The midterm is ready for you to take. See me for your username and password. It is an open-book multiple choice test with 45 questions. You can start the test by clicking on this link.
You will need to obtain a username and password before logging onto the test site. Shooting Specifications (Metadata):
The pictures below were shot with a Canon Digital Rebel T2i in Aperture Priority Mode, ISO 800 at various f-stops from f3.5 through f22.0. The depth of field widens as the f-stop number gets higher. At f3.5 the closer and further heads were not as sharp as the middle which was the focus point for each picture.
These images were shot with a Canon Digital Rebel Xsi at f8.0 at the specified ISO settings. Key Question - what drawback does a higher ISO setting have on a photograph?
This week we will continue to work on the group comic book project. We are also going to begin working on photography skills we'll be using in taking photos around the school for this year's Shield. Over the next month, we are going to be scientifically experimenting with our lab's digital cameras. Each week you will be required to complete four of the exercises that were developed by Peter West Carey. You can work with a partner, but each student needs to control the camera during the experiments. These exercises will help you develop the skills necessary to understand how digital cameras work. Here are this week's experiments:
All comic book groups should be shooting greenscreen images for their finished comic book this week as well. I expect layouts to be completed by the end of this week for this project. Below is a video that demonstrates how to use the background eraser on green screen photographs. Try to get even lighting on your green screen photos - eliminate as many shadows as possible.
Download this file to practice the technique. This week we are going to continue working on the comic book project that began last week. The finished project will be created by a team of 4 to 5 students and will be evaluated using this rubric. Each team will be responsible for the submitting the following: Pre-Production
You will be expected to produce an 8 page comic with the following elements:
Our objectives for this week are as follows: Monday - Create your teams - each team should have at least 4 to 5 members. Once teams are created - put your team name and each members' name onto the form below: A description of each of the job responsibilities can be downloaded by clicking on this link.
Tuesday & Wednesday: Create your story Once each team is established, team members need to meet to come up with a basic storyline. The storyline should be finished by Wednesday and a final script with basic drawings should be done by Friday. These documents must be completed before camera work begins. Download these documents to help you complete this task: The second quarter ends on January 23 of this month and now is a good time to remind all of you how important it is for you to document the work you're doing in this class every week. The reasons why every artist should be developing a serious portfolio are the following:
Happy New Year everyone! It appears that the Mayans were incorrect in their calculations and that's fine with me. I'm looking forward to all that 2013 brings and the second half of the school year. Before we started the winter break, I was amazed at the designs all of you came up with on the accordion books. If you didn't get a chance to print and bind your book, please finish it up by this Friday! We need to start improving our skills in two areas in the coming weeks:
Since this is a short week we'll be working on some techniques in Photoshop using the tutorials listed below:
I'd like to see everyone create at least four to five of these images by end of class on Friday and post them as a slide show to your portfolio. If you're adventurous you can try out the Comic Book Action above, but you'll have to figure out how to use actions in Photoshop. Next week, we're going to be working on the Photo skills part of this assignment and starting to create our stories. Make sure you have the techniques above mastered by the end of this week! One more week to go before the winter break. The projects that some of you finished last week were some of the best student work I've ever seen in my time in a classroom. The AM students especially seemed to be truly inspired and have fun working on the Typography Accordian books. I hope to have samples of some of the exemplary work so that all of you can see what your fellow-classmates accomplished.
A number of you didn't post to your journals last week. I'd like to see you fix that missing post first thing on Monday. Post the finished Personality of Type and Movie/Book Type Hierarchy exercises that you worked on early last week. The remainder of this week we should be working on finishing the Accordian books. Please remember that it takes both patience and time to complete the bindery of these books so don't wait until Thursday to print out the final book - you won't have enough time to finish the project if you do so. This design and typography work ties directly to the work on this year's yearbook that we'll begin in early 2013. If you need to make up missed work from last week - read last week's Project and Objectives post and follow the directions. I'd like to thank Luna and Dylan for the great work they did early this past week with the TE Middle School tours - you were both great spokespeople for our program and our school. You made me very proud to be your teacher. Thanks! |
