Competencies this week:
Below are the areas we will be covering:
Basics of Perspective Drawing: Apply it to Photoshop or Illustrator with scaling: Advanced Students might want to try this 3D assignment: This week we will continue working in Adobe Photoshop. Below are the projects we will be working on this week:
Part One - Pencil Drawing and Outlines: Watch the video below up to 13:40. You will be creating your own name or nickname using the technique shown in the video. Make sure you're okay with your pencil lines before using a Sharpee to finish the outlines. Use very light pressure when working with the pencil. Feel free to use any theme you can think of for the flourishes. This doesn't need to be an exact duplicate of what the artist is demonstrating. Be as creative as you can with this - work out your ideas before committing to a final design! Part Two - Scanning: After you've erased all of the pencil lines you will be scanning the black and white piece and emailing the scan to yourself. Scan the artwork at 400 ppi resolution as a full color file and save as a jpg. You have an email address through our Google for Students program. Your email address will be [email protected]. The keyboard on the copier pulls out and you can input your address in the "to" prompt. We will be using this artwork in Photoshop at the end of the week. Check your email account to make sure that the file arrived in your inbox! Part Three - Add Color to your work
Finish watching the video to get ideas for adding color. You can use a combination of color pencil, markers, or pastels to complete your work. Add as many color details (shadows and highlights) as you need. When you are finished scan the completed piece at 300 ppi, full color, jpg. We'll be using this scan to post the finished analog piece to your journal.
Below are digital copies of forms that help explain what we will be working on, how you will be evaluated this year, and how to get text message or email reminders about this class.
Many of us (myself included) want to improve our drawing technique. Drawing is an essential skill that we can get better at by practice and study. Throughout the year I will be posting some links to great videos that we can watch to help improve our drawing skills. I really recommend you spending any free time you have in class working on this skill. Being able to draw helps us generate ideas as commercial artists. Leonardo Pereznieto has exhibited his work in many prominent museums and galleries of cities like Florence, London, Paris, Montecarlo, Nice, Frankfurt, Seoul, New York, Los Angeles, Mexico City, etc. He has delivered over 50 lectures all over the world including at the New York Academy of Art, the Celebrity Centre Florence and the University of Michigan. Leonardo's videos can be found on his YouTube Channel Fine Art Tips. Mark Crilley - is an author, and illustrator and maker of very fine videos. Mark's video's can be found on his YouTube Channel. Mr. Crilley mixes realism with character art for comics and manga. His tutorials are definitely worth watching!

Final Project for non-senior students: This will be a major grade that will take the place of a written final. You can work either independently or with a single partner - both students need to document their contribution to the presentation on their learning journals
My Favorite Photographer - Here are the steps for completing this project:
Below is a new project that I did this year using Prezi: Senior Project Presentations: We will be using the following schedule to finish up presentations this week: Tuesday: Jon, Sean Wednesday: Rachel, Cody Thursday: Christina, Todd, Paul Friday: Simon, Amy Everyone has done well with these presentations so far - the work that the seniors have done while in our program is impressive. Sharing your portfolios and experiences benefits us all. We are proud of all of you! Yearbook Dedication: The yearbook dedication will take place on Tuesday at 10:00AM. Those of you that had five pages submitted will be receiving free yearbooks from the publisher. Projects for the week: Papermaking: the papermaking experiment will remain set up through the end of this week. Use the video below to get a rough idea on the method we are using. Screenprinting: All artwork should be produced at 8.5 x 11 (letter size) using Adobe Illustrator. Try to limit your colors to one. We can add additional colors by painting into openings with liquid screen ink. This week we will continue to work on techniques in Photoshop that can be used with green screen photography. We will be exploring how to use the background eraser tool. The name of this tool is somewhat misleading - there is no way for Photoshop to know what area of your image is the background. You need to provide it some help via the settings you use. We'll be working on how to get this tool to work for you. We will be using this tutorial as a reference. Download this file to use the technique in class. We will also be doing cinemagraphs as a major project this week. I posted some samples we did in the morning class on Friday (see below) This useful step-by-step tutorial will allow you to work independently if you choose. The key to success for this project is to keep it short and simple - and you must use a tripod. Here are some sites where you can view some great cinemagraphs: Next week, Seniors will be making short (ten minutes) presentations on their senior projects or job shadows. These are informal presentations where you discuss a major project that you worked on this year. You should demonstrate a job skill if you're presenting a project. Here is the tentative schedule:
