Welcome back to school! I've missed seeing you over the summer and I'm excited about the upcoming year. I think we can do a lot of very creative projects and we can all learn some new things along the way. Like the rest of the Chester County Intermediate Unit I'm trying to go paperless as much as possible. Because of that it's going to be critical for you to view this page every day. The CommArt site will be your source for everything about what we're doing in class every day. Making sure you're aware is your first responsibility in this class! If you miss a class it is up to you to make up any work that is missed and you will need this site in order to do so. I've attached a few forms below that will help you stay organized over the coming months. A syllabus, course sequence and class links reminder sheet are below. Make sure you download each of these and keep them in your class folder. ![]()

Parent or Guardian: Thank you for entrusting your child’s education to our school. I look forward to working with you to help your child reach his or her professional goals. Our Commercial Art program is a wide-ranging overview of photography, digital design and imaging technologies and your involvement is most encouraged. Our class is open to you – please feel free to stop in and observe what we’re working on at any point through the school year. Other ways for you to see what is happening include visiting our class website, Commercial Art @ CAT Pickering. You can reach this site at this URL: http://graphcomm.weebly.com. The start page is a blog that will explain what we’re doing on a weekly basis. I try to update this every Sunday. There is also a class calendar located on this site that will list project and assignment due dates. Students need to visit this site on a daily basis. If you want to check grades or attendance the school’s PowerSchool URL is https://powerschool.cciu.org/public You will need your child’s username and password to access this site. I would recommend getting these from your child early in the school year. If you have questions or concerns about your child’s learning, I can be reached a number of ways. My phone number is 610-933-8877 ext. 4111. My email address is [email protected]. If you would prefer to text message me or contact me via Facebook let me know and I’ll provide you with that contact information. Again thanks for choosing CAT Pickering for your child. Albert J. Featuring Sean Stephenson Alumnae Hall ~ Immaculata University 1145 King Road, Malvern PA 19345 1:00 p.m. at August 23, 2011 On August 23, the Chester County Intermediate Unit is hosting a special presentation by nationally renown speaker Sean Stephenson. The event is free and open to middle and high school students and their parents who reside in Chester County, however preregistration is required. Expected to die at birth due to brittle bone syndrome, Sean Stephenson faced an army of reasons to give up and countless opportunities to embrace pity. He suffered more than 200 bone fractures by age 18, reaches a height of only three feet, and is permanently confined to a wheelchair. However, this man took a STAND for a quality of life that has inspired millions of people around the world, including Tony Robbins and President Bill Clinton. And, now he is coming to Chester County. Please register online by August 13 at http://www.cciu.org/TimetoStand Congratulations everyone - we're getting some publicity for our school's QR Code interactive yearbook page! This story was released by the Intermediate Unit and is being picked up across the U.S. and abroad. The story has been published by over 4900 news sources including major news, radio and television stations. Here is a Google search of the press release. The title of the article is "Tech Students Pioneer QR Codes in Yearbook."
Update: the Philadelphia Inquirer ran a story on our use of QR codes. Click here for the story on the web. A question that I'm often asked by Junior and Senior students and their parents is - where should I go to school after graduation? There is no stock answer. Different schools offer different learning situations and everyone has different needs. The key is to make sure that you carefully research all of the possibilities.
College can be terribly expensive and it's not a bad idea to look at various alternatives to help offset the financial weight of the experience. Summer is a good time to visit a school - most colleges offer a summer sessions and it's more likely that you'll be able to spend more time touring than during the school year. Here are a couple of articles that you might want to read to help in choosing a good school for the next step in your career. Many friends of graduates are unable to attend graduation due to limited seating.
Additionally, during the ceremony visitors without tickets may join Mr. Ferd Bikle in Room 230 to view the ceremony. To join the Live Stream All you have to do is point your web browser to http://ccitv.cciu.org on June 6th. The live stream will begin at 7:00 p.m. To prepare for a Live Stream Please visit http://ccitv.cciu.org in advance. If you can see and hear the video in the portal window, you are all set for the live stream. NOTE: The live stream window can be made full screen by clicking on the double arrows in the lower left hand corner of the video window. Please read these instructions carefully! The Commercial Art final exam is an open-computer exam that you will be able to take only once. Your score will be combined with your mid-term exam to count for one-fifth of your total grade. The exam site is http://www.classmarker.com/
Juniors who have had their job shadow experience and have posted ALL the required information to their ePortfolios need to eMail me the link to your portfolio page that demonstrates all completed features. For the last major project of the year I'm going to ask you to use an online tool to create an animation, slideshow or edit a movie that answers one of the header questions. You can use a simple story format, a slideshow format, a commercial format - any way you feel like and still answer the chosen question. Here are some suggestions as to what tool you can use for this project:
Animoto - if you use this code a4etuck6aa164 you will be able to use this site in an unlimited manner for up to six months. You will need to create a new user account in order to do this. Stykz - is a stick figure animating program that will allow you to create stick figure animations for free. You will need to download the program in order to use this tool. Prezi - this is an interesting alternative to PowerPoint - you can imbed video, music, photos and move them around in an interesting way. ToonDoo - you could use multiple panel-strips to answer your questions. GoAnimate - this combines cartooning with slideshow techniques - you can add music, record soundtracks - interesting tool you might consider. Xtranormal - another web-based movie maker. This is one of the slickest of all of these but the render time is a bit longer with the increased quality. In honor of the rapture, I thought it might be nice to create a beverage commemorating this auspicious occasion. Here are the links we will be using: 3D Soda Can in Photoshop ![]()
These videos will help us with the Wacom Tablet project we'll be working with over the next week. |
