Choices. The first major project we work on this year is going to be about human emotion and the choices that artists get to make. Human emotion drives all art forms - music, dance, film, visual arts, theater, sculpture - whatever the art, human emotion lies at the heart of its creation. Through this project you're going to learn some technical skills - we'll be breaking into small 20 minute boot camps periodically on how to accomplish a number of manipulative skills and some methods for approaching the creative process. Both Mr. Tucker and Mr. Hicks want to see what you already know, and what you can do in the next two to three weeks to create an original product. Teams. Your first choice is how are you going to work - what media are you going to use and how are you going to work? Independently or with a team of creators. Your finished project can be a film, an animation, a slideshow, fine art presentation, or any other kind of multimedia product that you can imagine. That is a wide window of opportunity. We'll be discussing what talents and skills are needed to produce a short film, an animation or a slideshow. When I was a student, I hated group projects because all too often the real work got dumped on a few dedicated individuals. That won't happen here - you will have the ability to fire any non-productive team members and those folks will have to create their project independently. The theme. This project needs to represent any single or combination of human emotions (see list below for ideas or come up with your own.) What you need to keep in mind is the idea of crafting a small finished product really well! This has no time requirement, but should tell a brief story. Competencies this project:
Project Resources: Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year! I hope you've all had a restful and fun summer. Progress on our building rehab project is almost complete. I'm really looking forward to the coming year and the opportunity to work with both new and returning students. The flow continues for a little bit this year, but you will soon be attending a state-of-the-art facility for technical education. For the first few weeks, we'll be working with Mr. Sean Hicks and the students that are in our new Digital Media and Sound Communications. There are quite a few areas of overlap in our programs and this is a unique chance to work collaboratively with Mr. Hicks and his students. Digital Media's lab is almost complete and I'm hopeful that we can continue to work in union with this new and exciting program!

Some Reminders:
Seniors - Be sure to back up the work you have on your IU Google Drive to your personal account before the end of June. That would include work you completed in Portfolio class. Anyone with a personal Google email account has a Google Drive account so it would be wise to create copies of work you've completed here. Backing up work is absolutely necessary whenever you're working with a computer! Returning students - make sure that all work that is on local workstations in our lab is backed up to your Google Drive. All computers will be erased and reformatted with a clean image this summer. Just a heads up - it appears we will be starting the new school year with the Adobe Creative Cloud. Final Project - I expect all final project work to be completed by June 8th. Be sure to check your grade on Powerschool to be sure that I've evaluated your project. 2017 Shield I want to congratulate all of you that worked so hard on this year's edition of the Shield. The amount of labor that goes into producing this book is staggering. I appreciate all of the effort you put into creating this year's book. The yearbooks have arrived and sales are under way. There is no perfect book. We worked hard on this year's book but it has some issues that, going forward, we need to work at improving. After discussions with this year's yearbook staff we developed a list of actions we can take on making next year's book better. Some ideas for next year's book:
Competencies this week:
We will be working on our Year In Review project this week. Main tasks that need to be completed include creating a table of contents and setting up page numbering using master pages in InDesign. Make sure that you've uploaded your three files to the folder that was shared with you last week. All your files need to be uploaded to your folder by Thursday of this week, May 11th. By Friday, you should have a TOC and your two personal pages laid out out so that we can create some object styles. |
