Competencies this week:
This week we'll be working on packaging design. For this project you will need to bring in an existing package or use one that is in class. You will be creating a fictional product design that could be used in your finished portfolio. DO NOT just copy an existing design, you will need to explore at least three different design options before completing a finished design. A parody of an existing product is encouraged - be as creative as possible! Some tips for this project:

Thanks to all of you that worked so very hard on this year's yearbook. This year's book was definitely a team effort with almost every student in the program sharing their talents to create a memorable book. We made the deadline and we should have finished books in about 5 1/2 weeks. Special shout out to Alex Mc and Mason! These two seniors were very capable leaders this year and took on most of the really difficult parts. Our photography continues to improve every year. As a reward for your hard work on this year's yearbook the next two weeks will be passion project weeks. On Tuesday or Wednesday you need to establish what products you're going to create as passion projects. Try to pick projects that meet one or more of these artistic behaviors:
Keep an eye on the Twitter feed to the right if you're looking for ideas for this week's Passion Project. If you take this seriously I will try to incorporate a few more of these before the end of the year. Tell me what you're doing in the comments below! Competencies this week:

Color Wheel Poster Project Vocabulary for this project:
Day 1 & 2 (Color Wheel Photos):
Day 3 & 4: Color Acquity Test/Psychology of Color
We’ll need some text for our poster. Pick a single color you wish to feature in your poster. Use the following web sites to read about the psychology of color and how color is perceived differently in different cultures. http://www.sensationalcolor.com/color-meaning-symbolism-and-psychology http://www.merttol.com/articles/web/color-psychology-in-creative-design.html http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2010/01/28/color-theory-for-designers-part-1-the-meaning-of-color/ http://psychology.about.com/od/sensationandperception/a/colorpsych.htm http://www.infoplease.com/spot/colors1.html http://www.colour-affects.co.uk/psychological-properties-of-colours Create a Microsoft Word document (Use this Template) and copy/paste any text you can find related to the color you have chosen. Your text should include both bulleted lists as well as paragraph text. It is a good idea to edit your word file to remove any formatting from the web page. Make sure that you’re copying the sources (web address) of your information as we’ll be giving credit for the text sources. Day 5: Photography Section Take seven photos of an object that is of the color you’re going to focus on for your poster. Try to use a low depth of field for these shots and don’t be afraid to fill your composition with the color. In other words, get close to your subject! Upload your images to your Color Wheel Poster folder. Next Week: Thumbnails, Rough and layout in InDesign - details to come next week. Today is the day for the Color Challenge - use this link to access the color acquity test. Good luck to all competitors!
I am not feeling well enough to be there today. Please continue to work on the Art/Tech Poster and post to your portfolio page if completed. Once you are finished that project you can work on the project below: Yearbook Cover Theme Art - Construction Theme Given the construction project that TCHS Pickering has been working with this year, I thought it might be a good idea to give a nod to our construction site situation with this year's yearbook cover. You have a choice to make. The idea is to make a blueprint-like color themed cover using Adobe Illustrator. Document size: 18" x 12" We're going to need a few different pieces for this cover. We'll need some cranes (like pictured above). We'll need some construction vehicles like large trucks and bulldozers. These can be simple illustrations done with line segments and basic shapes. below is a sample. You will need to do a Google search to find various samples - look for line art by expanding your search criteria. If you want to create a crane, you can modify the file that is used in fig. 1 by downloading this file. The third piece we'll need will be the title text - TCHS SHIELD. Use the tutorial linked below by clicking on the sample image below:
